Here are a few more pics from Mt. Evans. The sheer rock walls are pretty cool. The wind though was blowing so hard at times it sounded like a water fall between the crevices.....And that will be the last time i forget a sweatshirt and hat....it was damn cold up there today! Unfortunately one motorcyclist "somehow" ended up driving off the edge and required life flight to fly him out...you can see his bike in the middle of the one picture...esp if you enlarge it....he was alive when they flew him out.........
Well I went to the top of Mt. Evans today elev. 14,264. But i cheated i drove.....wasnt sure if or where to hike it, but now that i know....its next on my list....Mt. Evans is directly across from Mt. Bierstadt that i climbed earlier but it has much more game on it than Bierstadt as evidinced by the pictures....some of the mt. goat and bighorn sheep are pretty tame and some people i guess feed them.....as i found out when one came up over a cliff and was going to get in my car.....more pictures to follow.....

Here are a few more pictures from the summit of Mt. Bierstadt. The one is a geological survey marker at the very top....the other that is pvc pipe had in it paper wrapped in plastic along with a pen so everyone who gets to the top can sign....there were people from hawaii there when i was there....so i wasn't the only one from sea level....the observatory is on the other mountain, Mt. Evans....side note if you look at my previous post of the picture that is below me of Mt. Evans you can barely see the observatory at the top....I love my new camera....i just zoomed in and was able to get a pretty good picture of the observatory and its outbuildings.....the lake is from the trailhead of Mt. Bierstadt......there were a lot of elk tracks around it but no elk this time..Oh well.......And the picture of the stone piling is a marker used to mark the trail among the stones....especially beneficial when its hiked in the winter....BRRRRRRRR!!!!!

Well I made it, all 14,000 + ft. I will put more pix of the tundra and scenery over the next few days....i took lots of pictures. It felt good to finally hike a mountain as high as pikes peak and realize i wasnt going to pass out....Ha Ha Ha. Its amazing how many people were out hiking the peak. And everybody going up wanted to stop and talk.....I think they just wanted to suck in some oxygen....or was that me...anyway....the one mountain picture is of mount bierstadt....the very peak is where the picture of me was taken.....the stream is one at the beginning of the trip. And the Lake was between Mt. Evans and Mt. Bierstadt...Sheep and Mountain Goat were seen earlier on Mt evans, but that was early in the am......more pictures to follow

Well im trying to get ready for Pikes Peak.....so Maggie and i took off this afternoon, at which time Miss Priss thought she needed to pose for the camera! She really loves when i can leave her off the leash to run.......I told her she's not allowed to bring any other 4 legged critters back with her though. These pictures are from some of the areas we hiked along st mary's falls trail. The one with a town in view is from a trail looking down into colorado spring's. Tomorrow i am going to try my first hike up a fourteener, one of the 54 mountains that colorado has that the summit is over 14,000 ft.....It's called Mount Bierstadt. Check back for pix of the summit!!!!!!

Hello, Im back....I headed towards breckenridge to the west yesterday and hiked up hoosier pass....elevations are getting much easier....but cool....as the snowball in july verifies. There were quite a few old mines in the area....i think they were probably more iron ore mines than gold....I just had to include John Wayne in these pictures. More pix of breckenridge to follow
